The beach is a wonderful place to visit no matter what time of the year it is. However, in December, the water can get pretty chilly! Fortunately, there are plenty of fun beach activities to do in winter that avoid the ocean altogether.
Fly a Kite
The wintry winds can create the perfect conditions for flying a kite on the beach. Just let the wind carry your high-flying kite around up in the air.
Search for Seashells
Taking a peaceful stroll along the shoreline, you can keep a keen eye out for various sea shells to use as ornaments for a tropical Christmas tree.
Play a Game of Volleyball
A round of beach volleyball is perfect no matter what time of year it is. Just set up the net and get ready to serve!
Create a Campfire
You can stay warm on winter nights by setting up a campfire on the beach. You can even trade out those roasted chestnuts on an open fire for some delicious seasonal s’mores!
Here at DeVoe Buick GMC, we are located about as close to the Gulf of Mexico as you can hope to get. Just a mile or so from our doorstep, you’ll find expansive views of the Gulf and the salty breeze in your face. Unfortunately, along with the beauty the beach offers comes the consequences of salty air. The high salt content of humid ocean air can mean that people who live near the beach are especially susceptible to finding rust forming on their cars.
Here are suggestions on how to prevent automotive rust to keep your car looking (and running) its best.
Wash, wash, wash. Make it a priority to wash your car every two weeks, and apply wax every month. This will help eliminate the salt on your car’s paint and undercarriage, and help to protect it from salt for the coming weeks.
Look for damage. Look for scratches, flaking paint, or bubbling paint. Any exposure increases the risk of rust formation, and bubbling paint can be in indication that rust is already forming. When you find any damage, apply a sealant to prevent rust from forming on those areas of damaged paint.
Consider anti-rust spray. If you live in particularly harsh environments or struggle with automotive rust, you can apply an anti-rust spray to your car to protect it further. The spray acts as an extra coat of protectant for your car’s paint job.

If you’re looking for something to do in Fort Myers this weekend, head down to the Bell Tower Shops for the Fort Myers Craft Beer and Music Festival. Taking place on Saturday September 12th from 3pm to 8pm, the festival gives attendees the opportunity to sample craft beers while enjoying music by local artists.
For a $30 general admission ticket, you get a tasting glass, a “tasting passport,” and a handy guide to the different beers being offered at the Craft Beer and Music Festival. A VIP ticket gets you unlimited beer samplings as well as VIP seating and restrooms.
The Craft Beer and Music Festival is ideally located near many shops and restaurants in the Bell Tower Shops parking lot, so food is easily accessible to festival-goers. The event even offers a cheaper ticket for designated drivers and attendees under 21 years old who won’t be drinking so they can still enjoy the concert.
Proceeds from the festival benefit the Rotary Club of Southwest Florida.

The GM Foundation has announced that it will provide grants totaling $2.875 million in support of 29 universities and organizations across the country through its University/Organization Partner Program. The program works to provide funds to advance education curriculum in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), along with other fields important to the automotive industry.
“The STEM workforce is and will continue to be a vital component in building communities and transforming our nation’s future,” said GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard in a statement. “By strengthening higher education programs and encouraging students to pursue STEM careers, we’re ensuring that the next generations of leaders and innovators will have the skills and education they’ll need to succeed and compete globally.”
These funds, which have totaled more than $13.7 million in grants through the University/Organization Partner Program since 2011, help provide resources to assist more students in graduating with STEM-related degrees. In addition, these funds help support design and manufacturing degree programs, diversity initiatives, student organizations, and career development resources.
Here at Devoe Buick GMC, we are proud to be part of an organization that puts a heavy emphasis on higher education.
DeVoe would not be around today if weren’t for the all the incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and committed people that come in to work here every single day. Whether you’re talking about sales, service, finance or parts, we really do have the best employees around! It’s only because of them that we’ve been around for so long. That’s why we like to have a day every year where we can show all the employees how much we appreciate them.
Employee Appreciation Day was just last week here at DeVoe Buick GMC. Employees were treated to a nice BBQ lunch and entertainment from Cool Runnings. It was a ton of fun! Check out the pictures below:
The numbers are in and we are so happy to announce that, thanks to all our amazing customers, we were able to raise $10,000 for Bosom Buddies during Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
If you didn’t already know, Bosom Buddies is a local organization that helps women fight breast cancer a couple different ways. First, they assist families who simply cannot afford proper treatment for breast cancer. But Bosom Buddies also holds educational clinics and support groups that help women during this trying time in their life.
According to Joetta Abbazio, the President of Bosom Buddies, “We service men and women in Collier County and Bonita Springs and we help them with the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. All the money that we raise stays here,” Abbazio said at the check-awarding ceremony. “We also run a support group that meets twice a month in the evenings; we council over the phone as well.”
The bottom line is Bosom Buddies is an incredible organization and it was our pleasure to present them with this money. If you’re interested in learning more about Bosom Buddies, feel free to check out their website!
Thanks to our amazing customers, we were pleased to present this check to Bosom Buddies after partnering with them for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
Well today is the first day of November. Do you know what that means? It means Breast Cancer Awareness month is officially over, and thus, so is the special we were running during October where we made a donation to Bosom Buddies for every car sold, leased or serviced.
And we just want to say, thank you so so very much to everyone who came in last month to show their support! Whether you purchased a new car or got an oil change, you helped make a difference in someones life who is dealing with something very difficult.
But just because Breast Cancer Awareness month is over doesn’t mean we can just forget about it until next October! Bosom Buddies is just an awesome local non-profit that could always use some help in the form of financial assistance or volunteers. If you feel like that may be something you’re interested in doing, please feel free to visit the Bosom Buddies website or give them a call at 239-417-4600.
Most people know that October is breast cancer awareness month; but what you may not know is what DeVoe Buick GMC is doing this month to make a difference in the aid in the fight(hint: the title of this blog is a dead giveaway). All of us here at DeVoe Buick GMC are proud to announce that we have partnered up with Bosom Buddies of Collier County to raise money for men and women in the area who are currently in the fight against breast cancer.
In a nutshell, Bosom Buddies is a local non-profit organization, based out of Naples, that “raises money for the men and women who are uninsured or underinsured and facing the diagnosis of breast cancer.”
So in an effort to help out Bosom Buddies during this breast cancer awareness month, we’ve decided to make a donation to Bosom Buddies for every purchase, lease, or service on any new or pre-owned vehicle at DeVoe Auto. We’ve made a lot of progress so far, but there’s still 10 more days in the month, and a lot more money that can be raised!
So with that said, won’t you consider checking out that car you’ve been eyeing, or finally changing the oil on your car? Every dollar counts. Stop by DeVoe Auto today!
