2016 Buick Encore
At the York International Auto Show, Buick revealed the fourth and last model the brand will be launching in 2016: the new Buick Encore, revised and updated for the 2017 model year. Over the past year, the Encore became the United States’ most popular small SUV, and so strengthening the appeal of the 2017 Encore was part of Buick’s strategy to refresh and reinvigorate the brand’s lineup for a more youthful, trendy demographic.
One of the most significant additions to the 2017 Buick Encore’s extensive list of features is the inclusion of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. In an increasingly tech-savvy segment, connectivity features such as smartphone-compatible user interfaces are crucial to staying ahead of the competition. Also noted at the presentation was the introduction of a brand-new, next-generation IntelliLink system in the interior, paired to an 8-inch color touchscreen.
Other modern tech added to the Buick Encore unveiled in NY includes Buick’s new QuietTuning engineering, which combines both active and passive methods of sound-cancellation to provide a more relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. Push-button start and keyless entry were also included with the Buick Encore shown at the auto show.
Buick will now be offering SUVs in all three major SUV segments, with the Encore falling into the small SUV segment, the Enclave in the large SUV segment, and the new Envision coming in directly between the two. After statistics showed that over 60 percent of Buick’s sales now come from SUVs, the shift in focus was strategic for the brand.
It was announced that the new Buick Encore will be launching later this year in fall of 2016. Information on the SUV’s five different trim levels was also released, ranging from the entry-level Encore 1SB to the high-end Encore Premium 1SN. Additionally, front-wheel drive comes standard, with all-wheel drive as an option.
Following its success as a China-exclusive model, the Buick Envision crossover will be debuting in the United States this upcoming summer as a 2016 model year. Buick’s crossover sales current make up 65% of the brand’s sales overall, making the decision to import the Envision–which will fill a niche between the Enclave and the Encore–a smart one.
The 2016 Encore is designed and engineered in America, but assembled at Buick’s plant in Shanghai. Featuring GM’s new global architecture for compact vehicles, an upscale look, and seating for five passengers, the new crossover is a luxurious and innovative but family-friendly addition to the company’s lineup. Other features include the standard turbocharged 252-hp Ecotec engine and Buick’s Active Twin Clutch AWD system.
The Buick Envision crossover is said to take some design cues from the rest of the Buick lineup, but with a contemporary edge as the company seeks to target a younger and more modern demographic–the demographic that made the crossover segment in general so wildly successful. With crossover sales dominating Buick’s numbers, the company has good reason to import this new addition to the family. We can’t wait to see it.
The crossover segment has become wildly popular in the past year and is now considered the fastest-growing vehicle class in the automotive industry. With so much clamor surrounding one segment, just about every manufacturer has gotten in on the fun–except for General Motors’ truck sub-brand GMC.
Now, the brand’s president Duncan Aldred is reportedly pushing for a GMC subcompact crossover to help the company dip its feet into the segment.
“That segment has grown so fast,” Aldred said in an interview with Automotive News. “I keep telling everyone, ‘How can General Motors’ truck brand not be in the fastest-growing segment in the industry, an SUV segment?’”
The success of the crossover can be seen in another GM brand–Buick. The Buick Encore lead the brand to a 53% sales increase in just 2014 alone, attesting to the segment’s incredible popularity among car buyers. Duncan Aldred happens to also be in charge at Buick, so his experience in working with crossovers and the success they bring is firsthand.

A GMC subcompact crossover has not been confirmed to be in production, but with the president pushing for such a vehicle to join GMC’s lineup, consumers shouldn’t be surprised if one is on the way very soon.
2015 Buick Verano Available at DeVoe Buick GMC
The Buick Verano, Encore, and Enclave have each won Kelley Blue Book’s 2015 5-Year Cost to Own awards in their respective segments.
This is the second consecutive year that three Buick models are named in the annual awards, which are based on Kelley Blue Book’s data for initial five-year ownership period.
The data includes lowest projected depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state registration fees. All-in-all, it’s a pretty comprehensive compilation of data that should give customers a good idea about how much money they’ll be spending on their vehicle over the course of the first five years of ownership.
Kelley Blue Book predicts that owning a Buick Verano can save you about $9,236 over that time compared to an average entry-level luxury car, while the Encore can save you about $14,370 compared to the average luxury compact SUV/crossover, and the Enclave can save you $17,509 compared to the average luxury full-size SUV/crossover.

The Buick Encore has only been on the market for a couple years, but it’s already dominating its small crossover segment. Recently, it was one of the three 2015 Buick vehicles that won a 5-Year Cost to Own Award from KBB.com, and its continued success has the brand thinking big. In fact, the Buick Encore sales have the folks at Buick planning to add more engine options to the vehicle’s lineup very soon.
2015 Buick Encore
Currently, it only has one engine—a capable 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 138 horsepower. But that will likely be changing soon. “I’d be lying if I said we’re not evaluating that,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick and GMC in the US. Aldred didn’t give us any details on what to expect, but we can always speculate on our own.
And speculate we shall! We’d expect to see Buick add a couple new engine options, including things like a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a 1.6-liter turbodiesel as well. Both of those engines are already used in various ways in the GM lineup, so they would be easily to implement in the new Encore lineup. Come see us at DeVoe Buick GMC to learn more of our thoughts.
The 2015 Buick Encore Recently Received a 5-Star Rating from the NHTSA
It looks like its vehicles’ appearances aren’t the only things Buick is revamping this year—the American carmaker is also revamping each vehicle’s safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently awarded the 2015 Buick Encore its top 5-Star Overall Safety Rating. With this award, Buick now has one of the safest lineups in the industry, with each vehicle—the Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Enclave, and Encore—earning a 5-Star Overall score.
“Consumers are consistently surprised to discover Encore provides the characteristics they expect in our larger offerings–style, sophistication, connectivity and comfort,” commented Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick. “NHTSA’s evaluation affirms Encore lives up to Buick’s safety reputation.”
The 2015 Buick Encore safety rating was earned after undergoing a rigorous crash test gauntlet, including front, side, and rollover tests. It also underwent a side pole impact test, which is the NHTSA’s newest assessment.

Buicks aren’t for old people anymore. The brand’s new marketing campaign has been launched, which pokes a bit of fun at the “old fogey” reputation Buick once carried. Today, the automaker boasts an attractive lineup of modern cars and crossovers that are attracting younger buyers who once ignored the Buick brand altogether.
2014 Buick Encore
Beginning earlier this year, General Motors began a complete re-launch of its brand with a new message: “Sure doesn’t look like a Buick!” There is no doubt that this campaign is working in the automaker’s favor. The commercials each feature people who can’t wrap their heads around the fact that the car in front of them is a Buick. Nielsen measurements rate one of the current spots as Buick’s top-rated commercial in several years.
This year, Buick continues its role as an NCAA sponsor, and appropriately, is releasing five new commercials over the course of the season. The Buick ads were created by Leo Burnett, and each one continues the theme of people failing to recognize a Buick when they see one.
Buick is GM’s fastest growing brand, with sales up 12 percent through July, compared to only 5 percent for the industry as a whole. Brand-new vehicles featuring modern designs, cutting edge technology, and premium materials combined with fun, fresh marketing efforts are contributing to Buick’s impressive success.

Here at DeVoe Buick GMC, we’re always looking to make customers happy, and we like to think our customers leave the dealership satisfied. So, you can imagine how happy we were when a recent study found Buick customer satisfaction was on the rise.
Not only has Buick, along with Chevy, seen increases in consumer satisfaction in the last year, but those two brands are the only in the U.S. to see improvement, with the others either staying the same or decreasing.
The report from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) tracks and compares 21 brands of automobiles. The ACSI asks 4,360 consumers about their overall satisfaction and their experiences with their brand.
The report says, “A considerable investment in Buick appears to be paying off for General Motors. Sales are up 12.5 percent for the first half of the year – the largest increase for any GM car – led by a surge in sales for Buick Encore.”
