There are a lot of reasons why you should call a Buick “yours,” but one of the biggest reasons is top safety. This year, the 2017 Buick models feature more safety than ever.
The 2017 Buick Envision has earned a five-star overall vehicle score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). To earn this high score, a vehicle must meet stellar safety requirements, and the Envision certainly does. It didn’t only take home five stars from the NHTSA, it also earned the 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for the second year in a row.
So, what makes Buicks so safe? It starts with top standard safety technology like radar and ultrasonic sensors that always keep drivers safe and confident. Available features like Forward Collision Alert and Forward Automatic Braking help give the driver an extra hand on the road and help prevent accidents.
The all-new Buick Envision also has features like front crash prevention and high intensity discharge headlights, all which helped it earn the top IIHS safety rating.
“Safety, quality and craftsmanship are designed into every Buick,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing.
No matter what 2017 Buick model you choose, you know that you’ll be getting amazing safety.
Thanksgiving Day and weekend typically have horrible traffic, so if you’re planning on taking a road trip out of town, it’s important to keep these Thanksgiving road trip tips in mind.
Auto-related deaths on Thanksgiving have generally less to do with drunk driving and more about long distances and heavy traffic. Try to leave early on your trip, since other drivers will be less drowsy and there will be fewer of them on the road, but you should also avoid leaving earlier than you would normally get up in the morning. Driving too early in the morning isn’t any better than driving at night—you’ll still be sleepy and off your game.
Another thing to look out for is stress. The holidays can take a lot out of us, and getting everyone together for a several-hour road trip with the prospect of dealing with relatives isn’t the most exciting. Heavy traffic just increases stress, so you just have to avoid letting it get the better of you and causing you to drive recklessly. And be watchful of other stressed-out drivers!
When packing food and luggage in the car, make sure everything is secured and won’t move. If you do get in a wreck or even just come to a sudden stop and there are heavy, loose items around, it could seriously injure you or a passenger.
Bring plenty of games, handheld devices, audiobooks, and regular books to keep your kids entertained on the trip. Avoid driving after you eat turkey, especially at night—the Tryptophan in turkey makes you drowsy. If you can, stay with your relatives.
2017 Buick Verano
The 2017 Verano design has fans talking. This model comes with a lightweight body that has been restyled like never before. This completely overhauled appearance is made to modernize the Verano while also improving fuel economy and adding luxury. If you want a sophisticated, advanced car, look no further than the new Buick Verano.
According to GM Authority, the new Verano comes with a compact design that is perfect for tight city streets as well as the open road. This fresh compact body has also allowed engineers to cut a significant amount of weight off the Verano, improving fuel economy, performance, and handling. The compact look is just the start, though.
The Verano is also getting an entirely new exterior, with a bold front end, sweeping contours, and available LED lighting. The interior is getting added space, as well as exclusive materials and sophisticated styling. This includes things like leather trim, high-contrast stitching, chrome trim, and wood inlays.
Under the hood will be a turbocharged four-cylinder engine as well, offering optimum performance and gas mileage. While previous model years had naturally aspirated engines, this new turbocharged powertrain will help drivers save at the pump while also reducing unnecessary emissions. These are just some of the great new features set to be released on the new Buick Verano.
There are a lot of confusing terms when it comes to checking out new cars and reading through the specifications. While horsepower is pretty self-explanatory, torque is a widely referred to spec that not many drivers can define. Even more of a mystery is what torque actually does in a car. So, just what does a car’s torque mean? Let us DeVoe Buick GMC explain.
Putting it plain and simple, torque causes a car to accelerate. While the torque specification is a higher number than the torque on the wheels, it’s still a good indicator of how fast a car can accelerate.
There are a few things that can help a car accelerate other than torque. A lighter car and lower center-of-mass will obviously help.
We’ve defined what torque is but not how it effects the vehicle in reality. Take a truck like the GMC Sierra 1500, for example.
If you’ve ever read the specifications on a full-size pickup, odds are you noticed that the engines fall in the range of a V6 or V8 and may include a diesel option here and there. The reason for that size of an engine is simple: the larger the engine, the more torque it can produce.
An engine with high torque won’t be as effective without large wheels and tires, which is why trucks are usually so massive.

2016 Buick LaCrosse at CAS
Buick has many amazing vehicles in the works, and we at DeVoe Buick GMC are excited to finally see the new LaCrosse Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). This model debuted at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, since China is one of Buick’s largest markets.
Lary Nitz, GM executive director of Global Propulsion System stated that, “GM’s leadership in electrification technologies, now and in the future, are coming to Buick in China.” The plan is to then introduce more than 10 new energy-efficient vehicles over the next five years. This includes plug-in hybrids, full hybrids, and extended-range electric vehicles.
The 2017 Buick LaCrosse HEV has a 1.8-liter SIDI engine, a 1.5-kWh lithium battery, and an electric variable transmission. This has helped increase fuel economy to 50 mpg, which is 35% more than the current LaCrosse with eAssist technology. This won’t be a sluggish vehicle though, as it can still accelerate from 0-to-60mph in 8.9 seconds.
A sleek roofline also helps improve efficiency and create an aerodynamic appearance. In addition, there is more advanced technology such as exhaust thermal energy recycling. This was also the introduction of the new platform of more efficient green technologies with the new “Buick Blue” logo.
We are not sure if the LaCrosse HEV will be offered in the United States, but we are certainly hoping that it will be!
We at DeVoe Buick GMC are thrilled by the spy pictures of the upcoming 2017 Opel/Vauzhall Insignia. You may be asking why we are excited since those aren’t brands we have here in the US. Well…the Insignia is basically a twin of the 2018 Buick Regal, only differing in name and powertrain options.
Both the Insignia and Regal are based on the updated version of GM’s E2XX architecture. This means that the interior will most likely be lengthen, and the overall vehicle weight will be lessened.
The new instrument panel has two large pods at an angle, which appears modernly organized. The current panel is often thought of as overly busy, so the new design helps streamline and de-clutter the center console. There are only two rows of buttons under the touchscreen display, which proves GM’s intent to simplify and streamline.
There are also rumors of the new Insignia and Regal having a hybrid powertrain option, a possible turbocharged V6, and even a potential all-wheel drive. The rumors also point out that GM is testing a five-door liftback version and a station wagon version of the Insignia, so we’ll see which body styles make it to the Regal.
For now, we’ll try to wait patiently until more details are released. Of course, feel free to come to DeVoe Buick GMC to see the current Regal, which is still a fantastic choice.

2016 Buick Encore
At the York International Auto Show, Buick revealed the fourth and last model the brand will be launching in 2016: the new Buick Encore, revised and updated for the 2017 model year. Over the past year, the Encore became the United States’ most popular small SUV, and so strengthening the appeal of the 2017 Encore was part of Buick’s strategy to refresh and reinvigorate the brand’s lineup for a more youthful, trendy demographic.
One of the most significant additions to the 2017 Buick Encore’s extensive list of features is the inclusion of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. In an increasingly tech-savvy segment, connectivity features such as smartphone-compatible user interfaces are crucial to staying ahead of the competition. Also noted at the presentation was the introduction of a brand-new, next-generation IntelliLink system in the interior, paired to an 8-inch color touchscreen.
Other modern tech added to the Buick Encore unveiled in NY includes Buick’s new QuietTuning engineering, which combines both active and passive methods of sound-cancellation to provide a more relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. Push-button start and keyless entry were also included with the Buick Encore shown at the auto show.
Buick will now be offering SUVs in all three major SUV segments, with the Encore falling into the small SUV segment, the Enclave in the large SUV segment, and the new Envision coming in directly between the two. After statistics showed that over 60 percent of Buick’s sales now come from SUVs, the shift in focus was strategic for the brand.
It was announced that the new Buick Encore will be launching later this year in fall of 2016. Information on the SUV’s five different trim levels was also released, ranging from the entry-level Encore 1SB to the high-end Encore Premium 1SN. Additionally, front-wheel drive comes standard, with all-wheel drive as an option.

The Buick Avista Concept model recently won the Detroit News Reader’s Choice award for the Best Future Concept due to its innovative engineering and styling. This acclaimed model also just won the EyesOn Design Award for Design Excellence, making the Avista one of the most anticipated models of the season.
What makes the Avista so popular? According to Buick, the Avista is a sports model with features like the new Electronic Precision Shift technology, touch-pad door handles, a 3.0-liter Twin Turbo V6, and more. Plus, this model has a sleek two-door design with sharp contours and unforgettable LED headlights.
“This award is special because this is the Motor City and it was decided by people who reside here – alongside many of the men and women who poured their hearts and souls into this concept,” said Nesbitt. “Because Avista represents the future essence of Buick design, an award decided by consumers is a great vote of confidence.”
The award was given to the Avista design team after roughly 100 judges made the final vote. Not only does the Avista represent the future of Buick styling, but this model also anticipates the future of mobility. We can’t wait to see it shake up the market once it arrives.
