Lately, General Motors has been churning out model after model of special- and limited-edition versions of the vehicles in its brands’ lineups. The latest to join the fray is the blacked-out GMC Terrain Nightfall Edition, which had its debuted at the recent New York International Auto Show. The compact SUV enjoys its fair share of popularity, and GMC sales officials are confident that the special edition will give buyers a new, unique option that helps the Terrain stand out in its segment.

The statement came from GMC Sales and Marketing vice president Duncan Aldred, who said, “The new Terrain Nightfall Edition adds another great-looking and well-equipped choice for this popular SUV—one that will stand out in a crowd.”

Differences between the standard GMC Terrain and the Nightfall Edition include the addition of a gloss-black paint job and accents, such as a charcoal front grille with gloss-black surround, front and rear fascia accents, and outside mirrors—plus luggage rails painted to match. Additionally, the 18-inch aluminum wheels come with gloss-black spokes. The result is a compact SUV that’s been given an edgy, all-black makeover.

The announcement at the Terrain Nightfall Edition debut in NY stated that the package will only be available as an option on two trim levels, the Terrain SLE-2 and SLT models. No details regarding the pricing have yet been unveiled, but as of right now, the standard SLE-2 starts at $30,000, while the SLT is $32,000.

Pricing will be announced closer to the Terrain Nightfall Edition’s release this fall, when it joins the ranks of other special editions such as the Canyon Nightfall and Sierra All Terrain X. Last year, the Terrain enjoyed record sales, becoming GMC’s second-highest-selling vehicle behind the Sierra pickup truck.

We aren’t the only ones saying the 2015 GMC Sierra HD is a good option for anyone looking for a large heavy duty pickup. Owners of the model agreed, placing the pickup at the top of its class in the 2015 J.D. Power APEAL Study.

The J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study scores many vehicles based on feedback from consumers after 90 days of ownership. Models are evaluated on a thorough survey examining 77 attributes and given a score of one to 1,000. The GMC Sierra HD earned the APEAL Study award for the Large Heavy Duty Pickup category.

“These and similar awards affirm that our customers recognize and appreciate the precision engineering, design and technology that go into every GMC,” said Duncan Aldred, US vice president for GMC. “Sierra HD trucks are engineered without compromise to deliver the capability, refinement and technology that inspire confidence with every task.”

The Sierra HD wasn’t the only standout vehicle in the study. The 2015 GMC Terrain earned runner up in the competitive class of compact SUVs.

GMC to Begin Huge Brand-Building Denali Campaign Next Year

brand-building Denali campaign

2015 GMC Sierra Denali

Prepare yourself. 2015 will be the year of GMC. Everywhere you turn, you’ll be learning something new about all of GMC’s great products. The automaker is planning what GM Authority is calling a “marketing blitz.”

Where there is a will, there is a way. Duncan Aldred, VP of GMC, said, “There is a will within the company.” And it’s that will which kickstarts what he calls a “big umbrella campaign” next year.

Aldred went on say that this huge campaign has got to evolve into “something that builds the brand itself.” With that, GMC is trying to increase brand recognition. They’ve certainly got the sales; they just need to augment their image.

Previously, the prestige and benefits of the Denali sub-brand have been passed by word-of-mouth among loyal customers. Not anymore. The focus of the marketing campaign will be the Denali sub-brand. This makes sense; 20% of sales in 2013 were Denali-enhanced GMCs, so why not start a brand-building Denali campaign?

Ad Agency Leo Burnett to Develop GMC’s Next Ad Campaign

GMC's Next Ad Campaign

General Motors has big plans for its truck brand. GMC’s truck lineup has a ton to offer, but seems to be all-too-often overlooked by shoppers. That’s about to change with GMC’s next ad campaign, which is sure to catch the attention of pickup truck-shoppers nation-wide. GMC has partnered with ad agency Leo Burnett on a “big umbrella campaign” that will showcase GMC as a premium, refined truck brand.

The upcoming campaign will also feature individual lines using the same theme to highlight each vehicle’s high-end features and capabilities. Duncan Aldred, US vice president in charge of GMC and Buick. has commissioned famed ad agency Leo Burnett in an effort to help GMC begin to attract non-GM buyers and boost their growth.

“We’ve got to evolve that into something that builds the brand itself,” Aldred said to Automotive News during a media test drive of the 2015 GMC Canyon midsize pickup. “The hard bit is breaking through and getting people to recognize it.”

GMC is already seeing impressive success this year, as the brand’s sales rose 10% through September, which is the strongest performance of GM’s four brands. Much of that can be attributed to GMC’s high-end sub-brand, Denali, which accounted for 20% of GMC’s total sales last year.

Adding brand-new, engaging, and bold advertising will surely only help GMC in its quest to turn heads and establish itself as a brand that offers refined, quality pickup trucks.
