Following its success as a China-exclusive model, the Buick Envision crossover will be debuting in the United States this upcoming summer as a 2016 model year. Buick’s crossover sales current make up 65% of the brand’s sales overall, making the decision to import the Envision–which will fill a niche between the Enclave and the Encore–a smart one.
The 2016 Encore is designed and engineered in America, but assembled at Buick’s plant in Shanghai. Featuring GM’s new global architecture for compact vehicles, an upscale look, and seating for five passengers, the new crossover is a luxurious and innovative but family-friendly addition to the company’s lineup. Other features include the standard turbocharged 252-hp Ecotec engine and Buick’s Active Twin Clutch AWD system.
The Buick Envision crossover is said to take some design cues from the rest of the Buick lineup, but with a contemporary edge as the company seeks to target a younger and more modern demographic–the demographic that made the crossover segment in general so wildly successful. With crossover sales dominating Buick’s numbers, the company has good reason to import this new addition to the family. We can’t wait to see it.
The crossover segment has become wildly popular in the past year and is now considered the fastest-growing vehicle class in the automotive industry. With so much clamor surrounding one segment, just about every manufacturer has gotten in on the fun–except for General Motors’ truck sub-brand GMC.
Now, the brand’s president Duncan Aldred is reportedly pushing for a GMC subcompact crossover to help the company dip its feet into the segment.
“That segment has grown so fast,” Aldred said in an interview with Automotive News. “I keep telling everyone, ‘How can General Motors’ truck brand not be in the fastest-growing segment in the industry, an SUV segment?’”
The success of the crossover can be seen in another GM brand–Buick. The Buick Encore lead the brand to a 53% sales increase in just 2014 alone, attesting to the segment’s incredible popularity among car buyers. Duncan Aldred happens to also be in charge at Buick, so his experience in working with crossovers and the success they bring is firsthand.

A GMC subcompact crossover has not been confirmed to be in production, but with the president pushing for such a vehicle to join GMC’s lineup, consumers shouldn’t be surprised if one is on the way very soon.
The 2015 Buick Encore Recently Received a 5-Star Rating from the NHTSA
It looks like its vehicles’ appearances aren’t the only things Buick is revamping this year—the American carmaker is also revamping each vehicle’s safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently awarded the 2015 Buick Encore its top 5-Star Overall Safety Rating. With this award, Buick now has one of the safest lineups in the industry, with each vehicle—the Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Enclave, and Encore—earning a 5-Star Overall score.
“Consumers are consistently surprised to discover Encore provides the characteristics they expect in our larger offerings–style, sophistication, connectivity and comfort,” commented Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick. “NHTSA’s evaluation affirms Encore lives up to Buick’s safety reputation.”
The 2015 Buick Encore safety rating was earned after undergoing a rigorous crash test gauntlet, including front, side, and rollover tests. It also underwent a side pole impact test, which is the NHTSA’s newest assessment.

2014 Buick Encore – Available now at DeVoe Buick GMC!
Drivers everywhere are choosing Buick for its affordable luxury. One of the most popular models is the 2014 Encore compact crossover. The Encore is perfect for those who like to sit high like in an SUV while maintaining great efficiency and enjoying the convenience of a smaller car. Motor Authority recently released an article stating that Buick may be introducing a new crossover!
The Buick Envision Crossover is set to be available sometime in 2015, but will start out in the Chinese market. Speculators show that the Envision Crossover will fit just between the Encore and Enclave. It is slightly bigger than the Encore, but not quite as big as the Enclave. Interior features include a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, cruise control, panoramic sunroof, noise canceling system, and leather accentuated accents.
Buick suspected new crossover is powered by a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The Envision will have Buick’s FlexRide suspension system which will give drivers the ability to switch between four distinct driving modes.
Here at DeVoe we hope that the Envision will be available here in the U.S. soon, until then we will wait for its official unveiling on August 28th! Stay tuned…
The Buick Encore seems to find new ways of impressing us year after year. This small SUV has been one of Buick’s top sellers and has found itself a hit among drivers. It has even gotten some drivers to switch from an outside brand to GM. Now, that’s impressive!
Recently the Buick Encore ranked among the highest in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study. This study was based off of information gathered from new car buyers within the last 90 days. Over 86,000 people were surveyed with 233 questions. The study aimed to find out information about the purchasing process, any repairs or maintenance needed, and their overall satisfaction with their purchase.
This is the second consecutive year that the Encore has been honored by J.D. Power. “Our strong products continue our rapid growth in the market as customers discover all that Buick has to offer,” said Buick and GMC’s U.S. VP, Duncan Aldred.

This seems like common sense to us here at DeVoe Buick GMC, but the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute went ahead and “proved” it anyhow: vehicles that feature rearview backup cameras make people safer. These backup cameras help to reduce the risk of “backing crashes,” protecting drivers and passengers alike in vehicles equipped with these cameras.
Buick has taken this knowledge to heart, making rearview cameras—traditionally just a convenient option—a standard feature on all new 2015 Buick models. “Rear backup cameras have become like power windows and air conditioning,” Karl Brauer, senior analyst for Kelley Blue Book, said. “While they’re not standard on every car, yet, it’s rare to operate a new vehicle without them. The increased confidence these cameras provide make them a must-have feature.”
Go back and pay close attention to the word “yet” in Brauer’s quote. Buick has removed that “yet” from their brand, proving the brand to be one of the most progressive brands in the auto industry, luxury or otherwise.
