At the York International Auto Show, Buick revealed the fourth and last model the brand will be launching in 2016: the new Buick Encore, revised and updated for the 2017 model year. Over the past year, the Encore became the United States’ most popular small SUV, and so strengthening the appeal of the 2017 Encore was part of Buick’s strategy to refresh and reinvigorate the brand’s lineup for a more youthful, trendy demographic.
One of the most significant additions to the 2017 Buick Encore’s extensive list of features is the inclusion of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. In an increasingly tech-savvy segment, connectivity features such as smartphone-compatible user interfaces are crucial to staying ahead of the competition. Also noted at the presentation was the introduction of a brand-new, next-generation IntelliLink system in the interior, paired to an 8-inch color touchscreen.
Other modern tech added to the Buick Encore unveiled in NY includes Buick’s new QuietTuning engineering, which combines both active and passive methods of sound-cancellation to provide a more relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. Push-button start and keyless entry were also included with the Buick Encore shown at the auto show.
Buick will now be offering SUVs in all three major SUV segments, with the Encore falling into the small SUV segment, the Enclave in the large SUV segment, and the new Envision coming in directly between the two. After statistics showed that over 60 percent of Buick’s sales now come from SUVs, the shift in focus was strategic for the brand.
It was announced that the new Buick Encore will be launching later this year in fall of 2016. Information on the SUV’s five different trim levels was also released, ranging from the entry-level Encore 1SB to the high-end Encore Premium 1SN. Additionally, front-wheel drive comes standard, with all-wheel drive as an option.
The crossover segment has become wildly popular in the past year and is now considered the fastest-growing vehicle class in the automotive industry. With so much clamor surrounding one segment, just about every manufacturer has gotten in on the fun–except for General Motors’ truck sub-brand GMC.
Now, the brand’s president Duncan Aldred is reportedly pushing for a GMC subcompact crossover to help the company dip its feet into the segment.
“That segment has grown so fast,” Aldred said in an interview with Automotive News. “I keep telling everyone, ‘How can General Motors’ truck brand not be in the fastest-growing segment in the industry, an SUV segment?’”
The success of the crossover can be seen in another GM brand–Buick. The Buick Encore lead the brand to a 53% sales increase in just 2014 alone, attesting to the segment’s incredible popularity among car buyers. Duncan Aldred happens to also be in charge at Buick, so his experience in working with crossovers and the success they bring is firsthand.
Buick Encore – Available at DeVoe Buick GMC
A GMC subcompact crossover has not been confirmed to be in production, but with the president pushing for such a vehicle to join GMC’s lineup, consumers shouldn’t be surprised if one is on the way very soon.
We’ve heard the story before. You came to DeVoe Buick GMC for your scheduled test drive of that Buick you’ve had your eye on for the past few months.
Unfortunately, it’s been one of those days: you were late to pick up the kids from summer camp, which also meant you were late to her doctor’s appointment and his swim practice. Of course, that made you 20 minutes late for your test drive appointment and your mind is everywhere but focused on the luxurious vehicle you now get to drive for only 40 minutes before you have to retrace your steps and pick up the kids.
While it doesn’t take long to fall in love with a Buick, the automaker recognizes that it helps to be able to spend more time with the vehicle, especially when that time is relatively free of stress and you can enjoy driving. That’s why the 24-hour test drive program not only allows you to drive through your everyday routine during that 24 hours; it also provides participants with advice on reducing stress and experiencing the happiness that comes from driving a Buick.
Exclusive online content is available to promote a happy driving experience, including a recipe for a custom in-car fragrance, basic yoga exercises for a relaxing ride, and more.
Go ahead. Forget about your almost-missed test drive and add the Buick 24-Hours of Happiness Test Drive to your schedule as soon as possible.
The Buick Encore has only been on the market for a couple years, but it’s already dominating its small crossover segment. Recently, it was one of the three 2015 Buick vehicles that won a 5-Year Cost to Own Award from KBB.com, and its continued success has the brand thinking big. In fact, the Buick Encore sales have the folks at Buick planning to add more engine options to the vehicle’s lineup very soon.
2015 Buick Encore
Currently, it only has one engine—a capable 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 138 horsepower. But that will likely be changing soon. “I’d be lying if I said we’re not evaluating that,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick and GMC in the US. Aldred didn’t give us any details on what to expect, but we can always speculate on our own.
And speculate we shall! We’d expect to see Buick add a couple new engine options, including things like a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a 1.6-liter turbodiesel as well. Both of those engines are already used in various ways in the GM lineup, so they would be easily to implement in the new Encore lineup. Come see us at DeVoe Buick GMC to learn more of our thoughts.
Buick took home three Kelley Blue Book 2014 5-Year Cost to Own awards last week, demonstration lower-than-average ownership cost than similar vehicles on the market.
The list was compiled using Kelley Blue Book® Residual Values, a sophisticated valuation methodology that draws from critical financial data from third-party providers. The goal is to calculate depreciation costs, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state registration fees—helping KBB’s readers to garner a good understanding of which cars are most likely to give them the most bang for their buck.
This year, the Buick Verano, Encore, and Enclave were undoubtedly those that delivered the biggest bang for their customers’ buck, coming out ahead in the entry-level luxury, luxury compact SUV/crossover, and luxury full-size SUV/crossover categories, respectively.
“Buick puts the customer first, not only offering a great portfolio of vehicles, but maintaining quality and dependability long after the vehicle is purchased,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick marketing.

The new Buick Encore has been getting a lot of attention lately for being one of the smallest SUV’s in a world of vehicles that just keep getting bigger and bigger. But now the Encore is making headlines for something totally different – it’s incredibly high marks in safety tests issued by the IIHS and NHTSA. According to a recent press release by Buick, “The 2013 Encore luxury small crossover joins all other current Buicks as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2013 Top Safety Pick. The Encore with all-wheel drive also received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.”
Not many other car makers can make that claim these days. However, Buick is very proud that all their vehicles keep meeting such high safety standards.
The Encore has 10 standard airbags, a rear vision camera, and features such as OnStar that help people when they need it most. Perhaps one of the coolest safety feature in the Encore is the new sensors that, in a rollover crash, are able to detect what’s going on and deploy head curtain airbags prior to impact. It’s innovations like that that keep Buick on top!
If you’re interested in making a Buick Encore your own, stop by DeVoe Buick GMC and take one for a test drive today!
USA Today recently came out with an article about the new Buick Encore entitled “2013 Buick Encore shrink wraps the brand’s core values.” And the more we thought about this title, the more we realized how perfect it was. The Buick Encore is unlike any Buick vehicle in the past. Sure, it’s an SUV like the Enclave, but it’s much smaller. However, despite its differences in comparison to the rest of the Buick fleet, the Encore is still very much a Buick at its core. The exterior styling has Buick written all over it, and all the technology on the interior absolutely lives up to what everyone has come to expect from this luxury brand of cars and SUV’s.
The USA Today article goes on to say, “Buick wants to combine its core attributes into an entirely new, and much smaller, crossover design intended to appeal to younger clientele. The 2013 Buick Encore enters a SUV and crossover market brimming with worthy competition, such as the Mini Countryman, Honda CR-V, and VW Tiguan.”
So we would like to give a little challenge to you. We challenge you to go out and take those other small SUV’s out for a test drive, and then come to DeVoe Buick and take the Encore out for a test drive. We are that confident that when you put the Encore up against the competition, it’ll be obvious which one is the best.
Throughout the years, it seems things have just kept getting bigger. Average home sizes are increasing, enormous burgers are now readily available, and cars, especially SUV’s have only gotten bigger and bigger. But is bigger really better?
Not always. Introducing the 2013 Buick Encore. Buick has proved that great things can come in small packages. Check out the video below to see for yourself:
See? Even though the Encore is small in comparison to the tanks owning the roads these days, there’s still plenty of space for all the bells and whistles. Oh – and did we mention it gets a combined EPA-estimated fuel economy of 28 mpg? Come take one for a test drive at DeVoe Buick in Naples today!
