There are a lot of confusing terms when it comes to checking out new cars and reading through the specifications. While horsepower is pretty self-explanatory, torque is a widely referred to spec that not many drivers can define. Even more of a mystery is what torque actually does in a car. So, just what does a car’s torque mean? Let us DeVoe Buick GMC explain.
Putting it plain and simple, torque causes a car to accelerate. While the torque specification is a higher number than the torque on the wheels, it’s still a good indicator of how fast a car can accelerate.
There are a few things that can help a car accelerate other than torque. A lighter car and lower center-of-mass will obviously help.
We’ve defined what torque is but not how it effects the vehicle in reality. Take a truck like the GMC Sierra 1500, for example.
If you’ve ever read the specifications on a full-size pickup, odds are you noticed that the engines fall in the range of a V6 or V8 and may include a diesel option here and there. The reason for that size of an engine is simple: the larger the engine, the more torque it can produce.
An engine with high torque won’t be as effective without large wheels and tires, which is why trucks are usually so massive.
The beach is a wonderful place to visit no matter what time of the year it is. However, in December, the water can get pretty chilly! Fortunately, there are plenty of fun beach activities to do in winter that avoid the ocean altogether.
Fly a Kite
The wintry winds can create the perfect conditions for flying a kite on the beach. Just let the wind carry your high-flying kite around up in the air.
Search for Seashells
Taking a peaceful stroll along the shoreline, you can keep a keen eye out for various sea shells to use as ornaments for a tropical Christmas tree.
Play a Game of Volleyball
A round of beach volleyball is perfect no matter what time of year it is. Just set up the net and get ready to serve!
Create a Campfire
You can stay warm on winter nights by setting up a campfire on the beach. You can even trade out those roasted chestnuts on an open fire for some delicious seasonal s’mores!
Believe it or not, a 1991 GMC Syclone, the exotic car of pickups, was recently discovered and is set to go up for bidding. The Syclone is quite a throwback for us here at DeVoe Buick GMC, a tribute to quality GMC engineering and performance.
So what makes this old pickup truck so great? The 1991 GMC Syclone performance capability is truly incredible, even by today’s standards. Its 4.3-liter V6 was capable of 280 hp, and it can do zero-to-60 in four seconds. According to GM Authority, there were only 3000 ever produced, few of which have been unearthed.
“Oh, and about the best acceleration attainable from a vintage 90s-mobile outside of an exotic Italian or German import. Granted, sure, the GMC Syclone might not tow your boat to the lake. But it’s a super truck; ditch the boat, go driving instead,” said Aaron Birch, automotive writer and filmmaker.
This particular model is all-original with only 7,400 miles, AWD, and a console-shift automatic transmission. This relic is just one example of the performance which GMC is constantly striving for.
