After the popularity of its Avista concept, Buick has decided to launch its bold luxury sub-brand for the 2018 model year. The Buick Avenir sub-brand will be applied to existing Buick vehicles as a new luxury trim as well as future Buick cars.
Buick has spent the last few years reinventing itself, putting out cars like the convertible Cascada and the stylish Verano. With a reinvigorated brand, Buick hopes to use the Avenir lineup to attract younger customers and allow Buick to compete with other luxury brands.
According to Buick, the brand has quickly gained popularity with female customers, and half of new Buick buyers came from competitor brands, interested in Buick’s high-end luxury vehicles. Most Buick buyers are going for the top trim levels.
Avenir is the French word for “future” and will borrow from the 2015 Avista concept in design, maintaining the mesh grille. Details on the Avenir have been vague, but it will also have large-diameter wheels and interior accents like Avenir script and unique seat details. The Avenir cabin will “enhance the brand’s quiet, inviting environment,” according to a statement from Buick.
More details will be announced about the Avenir sub-brand in the coming months.
A market trend toward crossovers is causing Buick to reconsider its lineup and make some adjustments. With a new mid-range crossover recently introduced to the market and two others already being sold under the Buick name, the luxury brand’s three sedans are beginning to fall behind their larger siblings in sales. One of the adjustments being made due to this trend is the removal of the Verano from Buick’s US lineup. The discontinued Buick Verano is expected to last through a 2017 model year before fading from the market.
2016 Buick Verano
In previous years, before the crossover skyrocketed to popularity, small cars like compact sedans were viewed as attainable entries for first-time luxury buyers. However, the compact Verano was overtaken in sales by the subcompact Encore, which is now Buick’s best-selling nameplate. Buick predicts over 70 percent of their U.S. sales over the next year will come from crossovers.
The move to phase out the discontinued Buick Verano mirrors current Buick sales chief Duncan Aldred’s core philosophy to focus resources on a few hard-hitting nameplates, as opposed to having a broad, diverse lineup that strains the company budget. The Verano only sold just over 31,000 units in 2015, a number that pales in comparison to the 2016 Envision’s predicted 50,000.
We’ve heard the story before. You came to DeVoe Buick GMC for your scheduled test drive of that Buick you’ve had your eye on for the past few months.
Unfortunately, it’s been one of those days: you were late to pick up the kids from summer camp, which also meant you were late to her doctor’s appointment and his swim practice. Of course, that made you 20 minutes late for your test drive appointment and your mind is everywhere but focused on the luxurious vehicle you now get to drive for only 40 minutes before you have to retrace your steps and pick up the kids.
It’s a good thing Buick is offering the 24-Hours of Happiness Test Drive program.
While it doesn’t take long to fall in love with a Buick, the automaker recognizes that it helps to be able to spend more time with the vehicle, especially when that time is relatively free of stress and you can enjoy driving. That’s why the 24-hour test drive program not only allows you to drive through your everyday routine during that 24 hours; it also provides participants with advice on reducing stress and experiencing the happiness that comes from driving a Buick.
Exclusive online content is available to promote a happy driving experience, including a recipe for a custom in-car fragrance, basic yoga exercises for a relaxing ride, and more.
Go ahead. Forget about your almost-missed test drive and add the Buick 24-Hours of Happiness Test Drive to your schedule as soon as possible.

Buick and GMC enjoyed their best November performances since the early 2000s, with Buick sales rising 13.8 percent and GMC sales rising 31.1 percent, marking the latter’s 10th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.
While numerous vehicles helped Buick achieve its best November in more than ten years, it was one standout vehicle that made it happen for GMC—the new, heavy-duty 2015 Sierra.
With sales of 22,458, the Sierra was up 57 percent for the month, marking its best November ever and helping GMC sell a total of 43,854 trucks.
Over at Buick, customers were drawn to the LaCrosse, Regal, and Verano, with sales increasing 53 percent, 32 percent, and 22.5 percent, respectively. The vehicle that made the biggest impact was the Encore SUV, which continued to bring new customers to Buick and enjoyed a 55.7 percent rise in sales.

Buick took home three Kelley Blue Book 2014 5-Year Cost to Own awards last week, demonstration lower-than-average ownership cost than similar vehicles on the market.
The list was compiled using Kelley Blue Book® Residual Values, a sophisticated valuation methodology that draws from critical financial data from third-party providers. The goal is to calculate depreciation costs, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state registration fees—helping KBB’s readers to garner a good understanding of which cars are most likely to give them the most bang for their buck.
This year, the Buick Verano, Encore, and Enclave were undoubtedly those that delivered the biggest bang for their customers’ buck, coming out ahead in the entry-level luxury, luxury compact SUV/crossover, and luxury full-size SUV/crossover categories, respectively.
“Buick puts the customer first, not only offering a great portfolio of vehicles, but maintaining quality and dependability long after the vehicle is purchased,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick marketing.
